The Center of the Electronic industry is, first and foremost, a factory.
A factory in the sense of its primary function with an impact that exceeds its utilitarian boundaries.

The Center of Electronic Industry brings together production, office, representation, and social spaces, all harmonized in an ensamble of three industrial halls. In total, 11 000 square meters located within the Miroslava Industrial Park in Iași County.

The beneficiary of the project is a group of three companies that produce electronic components, equipment, and assemblies. They currently employ 100 people, and for the new production center, a doubling of staff is estimated.

The project covers the need to expand production capacity in a space of a better space, which will ensure the efficiency of operations and closer links between departments.

In addition to the suite of spaces serving the business segments of the Electra group, the new factory is also a manifest.

One in which the idea of working in an industrial context takes on another significance.
One in which collaboration and efficiency are at the forefront.
One in which people are placed first and valued at the level of skills and competences.

The principles of internal functioning and the values of the group of companies were the starting point of the project: cohesion, integration, flexibility, efficiency, transparency, care for people and environment, innovation, and finding constant development opportunities.

The factory captures these values and translates them into reality and in a 100/100 sqm square plan, where the teams from the Electra group are brought together not only physically, but also at the level of shared beliefs and principles.

Each hall is composed of two sections.

The 10 m, two storey, section of each building houses the technical and social spaces on the ground floor and the administrative ones, on the first floor.
The production spaces are organized horizontally in sections of 20 and 40 meters, respectively. Everything is clearly and efficiently organized.
Although spread over so many square meters, the factory remains human, manageable, easy to travel, but understandable.

The volume is adapted to its context.

Vertically, the three volumes adapt their shape to the inner and outer context. The sloping roofs address both the functional requirements of the buildings and the environmental conditions.
Their shape solves the technical problems of rainwater capture, with the lowest costs of execution and exploitation, and implicitly optimizes the interior volume.
At the same time, they are an expression of the communication between production and administration.

The core ensures the cohesion of the ensemble.

The central body houses the standard functions (cafeteria, auditorium, reception, protocol and training rooms, exhibition spaces) and functionally unites the three halls. It is the area where cohesion and caring for people, two of the Electra values, are captured in all their splendor.

This space not only communicates the results of a collective effort coming from different business directions but also highlights the relationships and helps to strengthen them.

The administrative spaces visually communicate with the production spaces.

This shows the level of transparency and honesty within the factory, where the relationships between people have higher chances of consolidation. Furthermore, it reinforces the idea that there is no classical hierarchy, that each contributes to the smooth running of things, and the impact is a uniform one. Administration, design, production, and delivery are all experienced as an interconnected process.

The inner patios fundamentally improve the quality of the working environment.

The three patios, with the role of representation, either technically or recreationally, cut the volume and individualize the three halls. At the same time, they offer openings for many of the workspaces and provide visual connections between the halls themselves. Thus, a dynamic is created that serves the purposes of the beneficiaries and facilitates interactions throughout the group.

The rigidity of the shape offers flexibility in use.

Modularity and prefabrication have been used intensively in the thinking and execution of all the details. This way, we increased the speed of construction and reduced costs.

The client was involved in the design of the program. He tested and refined together with the design team the possibilities of improving the technological processes through architecture.

In-depth thinking of the flows, installations, proportions, and connections between spaces, carefully tailored to the specificity of each company in the group, finally produced flexible spaces, suitable for any future change of use.

The project includes sustainability principles that improve the quality of the indoor environment, increase the comfort of the users of the spaces, and reduce the operating costs:

  • ︎ controlled natural ventilation;
  • ︎ natural light in all workspaces;
  • ︎ volumetric optimization to make operating costs more efficient;
  • ︎ efficient thermal insulation;
  • ︎ integrated stormwater management.

„I want to build a castle... ”

Electra Electronic Industry Centre is, first and foremost, a factory. But while 100+ people live it, it has a life in itself — one consumed in a rhythm that is guided by the values that contributed to its making.

Finally, the factory can be defined through three attributes that underlie the Electra spirit:

1. Humanity - abundant visual communication gives openness and improves dialogue, trust, and a feeling of belonging. 

2. Light - the factory benefits from a lot of natural light, and this is not only essential in the way that people consume time there, but it also makes costs more efficient.

3. Symmetry - almost like a well-rehearsed set design, this regularity and proportionality indicate the robust way in which people work, think, and dream in the factory.
